Healing from PTSD and Anxiety

PTSD and anxiety can be extremely difficult to deal with, with mental, emotional and physical symptoms that can be sudden and debilitating. I have suffered from both. My healing journey began by using some coping strategies get relief from my symptoms for short periods of time. These gave me the energy and ability to focus on finding a more permanent solution. After some searching, I discovered an ancient oral tradition of healing and empowerment, which has helped me make significant progress toward eliminating the need to cope. I have effectively gone from a place of being completely unable to take care of myself or function on a day-to-day basis to living the the life I want and having the symptoms gone from my life.

So how did I do this?

First, here are eight coping strategies that I used to get relief from PTSD and Anxiety:

1) Short-term Distractions

Being in a survival state is exhausting. So the first thing I did was to break free from this stress by finding some convenient distractions: binge watching Netflix, playing games on my phone, and watching YouTube videos, etc. In the beginning of dealing with PTSD and anxiety, when the symptoms were the most intense, it was often too hard for me to gain any perspective on my experience. It was easier for me to allow myself some small distractions, which let my mind and body relax enough to continue my healing.

Healing from PTSD and Anxiety - HypnosisMy favorite distraction was a game called Lifetime. Lifetime is an intricate virtual world filled with different beings, societies, religions, magics, etc. It’s amazing because you’re given the opportunity to do and create anything you want, easily and quickly. It let me see how I reacted to things in a safe environment, removed from my stressful reality. I learned from my choices, patterns, and values and this awareness translated into valuable insights about how I live my real life.

I want to be clear that distraction as a coping strategy didn’t solve the causes of my condition, but it did reduce my exhaustion and gave me enough energy to be able to focus on new opportunities to heal. Getting stuck here in distractions and fantasy can become escapism, and can create a perpetual state of running away from suffering while all energy is spent managing symptoms instead of moving back into a centered and effective state of mind. If your symptoms are not so consistently acute, then you can skip this step and continue with step 2, the “five – four – three – two – one” method.

2) Center with the “Five – Four – Three – Two – One” Method

This strategy can turn around a panic attack by engaging the senses on what is happening right here in this moment.

Take five deep breaths, count four things you can see, three things you can touch, two things you can hear and one thing you can smell.

This one is really great for grounding and centering, especially when anxiety is running really high or if you feel a panic attack coming on. This pulls you to the present and helps your body calm down.

3) Engage the Senses with Smelly Soap and Hot Showers

Healing from PTSD and Anxiety - AromatherapyActivating your senses draws you out of your mind and into the now, into this physical body.

Smell is the sense that best recalls memories, so I find that smelling really pleasant things – flowers, comforting smelling soap or lotion, essential oils, etc, all call in memories and feelings that are nice and soothing. This helps bring your mind out of whatever you were thinking about or fixating on and instead fills you with comforting sensations.

Hot showers are really great too and relax your body and muscles. The hot water brings you into the moment and forces you to focus on the physical sensation and the relaxing of muscles helps bring you out of fight or flight and lets you know it’s safe.

4) Express Emotions

I found expressing my emotions – either by journaling, talking to a friend, crying to a loved one, or shouting into the woods – makes me much more able to let go of whatever it was I was experiencing.

This strategy is extremely important because emotions are all about flow. If you are feeling something and don’t express it, you will be carrying it around with you. But by expressing it you let go of it and open yourself up to new emotions and feelings.

5) Find Clarity Through Therapy or Counseling

Therapy was an extremely useful tool. My therapist acted as a sounding-board for insights into issues I needed to deal with. Or in other words, he was able to point out patterns that I couldn’t see on my own, relayed what I was experiencing was common and normal for people in my position, and gave me a place to talk through what I was experiencing so I could get to root issues.

He helped me understand myself. This greater understanding allowed me to see why I was acting the way I was, how I drew harmful people into my life, and how to rewrite those patterns. I learned to draw in loving people into my life, created strong boundaries, and saw myself as worthy. Using therapy in this way, I was able to see my root issues, providing context for my experiences.

See what it is like to really look at how you act. Open yourself up to hearing the patterns that you live by. It is in this way by bringing our patterns into our consciousness that we can actively work on changing them. What we are unaware of bites us in the butt, what we are conscious of, we affect.

Another helpful tip about counseling and therapy is that there are a lot of cost-effective ways to do this. Because of the Affordable Care Act, most health insurances cover mental health services. Also depending on your circumstances, many cities have some sort of counseling center that will provide reduced cost counseling for specific groups of people (for example, persons with low income, sexual assault survivors, members of the LGBTQ community, domestic abuse survivors, etc.). I personally was able to receive free counseling from two different organizations, because I was a sexual assault survivor and had been in an abusive relationship. So if cost is a problem, do some quick Googling and you may find an organization near you where it won’t be.

6) Reprogram Core Beliefs with Hypnosis

I cannot stress enough how powerful hypnosis has been for me. It takes core thoughts and beliefs I’ve had ingrained in my subconscious from the abuse I’ve experienced and replaces those harmful beliefs with productive ideas.

This has taken the form of changing beliefs like “if I mess up, I deserve to die” to “I’m here to learn from my actions, I can always change my actions in the future” and “I don’t trust myself” to “I trust myself to do what’s best for me.” Hypnosis rewires your brain. In a 2-hour session, I can undo a core belief I’ve had for years.

However, hypnosis only works as much as you are willing to let go of patterns and change. This may be hard on a subconscious level because we are attached to our patterns; our patterns have been our way of living, it’s how we’ve been conditioned. I’m not sure what would be the outcome if I hadn’t worked so hard on myself. But as I’ve experienced it, hypnosis has been extremely effective.

7) Fill Your Life with Joy

Healing from PTSD and Anxiety - Have Joy in LifeThis one is fairly self-explanatory – do things that bring you joy. This is extremely powerful and yet so simple. Things like dancing and singing around my room, going outside and laying on the grass on a sunny day, hiking through the forest or drawing an art piece, all these things bring me joy, but doing these things frequently was essential to my healing process.

With PTSD and anxiety, or being in fight-or-flight most of the time, I couldn’t be happy or enjoy most things because that part of my psyche that let me experience happiness was turned off. By mindfully carving out space and time to do things that filled me with joy, I was able to “fill my cup” enough to make it through the hard times when I was afraid, knowing there would be better things to come. Eventually, joy made the PTSD symptoms come in slower and helped keep them at bay. Also, the act of doing something that brings joy tells the subconscious that you are valuing yourself and taking care of yourself.

I understand that this one can be hard to make time for, especially if you are experiencing high anxiety. How can you go outside for a hike when you have a work deadline? Start small, take five minutes to do something joyful. For me dancing in my room worked, but for you, it might be doing a puzzle, playing a game, playing an instrument, or cuddling with an animal. Whatever it is, start small and then work your way up to carving out more space and time for things that bring you joy.

The Game Changer – How I Began to Completely Heal PTSD

When I was living in Boston, I found my way to a chiropractor. He knew so much about the universe and how it worked, he knew how to see energy and work with it, as well as use ancient tools to affect the world around him. He seemed to know and have all the keys I was looking for. Something had been screaming inside of me to find keys to work with my spirit. The human system is made up of mind, body, and spirit but currently our medical system only addresses the first two. It was working with the third that eventually led to the complete resolution of my symptoms.

My chiropractor introduced me to where he learned all his tools, and it was in the Modern Mystery School. I quickly went, got life activated and joined the 3,000-year-old lineage and my life drastically changed. Instead of being in the passenger seat of my life- a victim of abuse, and a victim to symptoms of my mental disability, I became the driver of my life. Every aspect of my life became the result of conscious actions and choices I had made. Nothing was out of my control, I was responsible for all of it – so I had the power to change all of it.

Now I truly live creating the life of my dreams. I couldn’t have done it without the ancient tools found in the Modern Mystery School.

What are these tools that led to me completely healing PTSD and anxiety? Well here are 3 of them:

Here are three activities from the Modern Mystery School that have helped me get over my PTSD and Anxiety.

1) Meditation

Meditation has been a crucial tool for decreasing stress long-term. It centers me and gives me a point of reference to act from. When I meditate, all the chaos around me falls away and I’m left with who I really am. Throughout the rest of the day, I can act from a place of knowing my true self and am much less bothered by any changes that may occur externally. Meditation is not only about having a clear mind; there are many forms of meditation. I found more active meditations (where you think but about specific things) to be much more accessible to me. One specific type I enjoy is the Modern Mystery School meditation technique called the Max Meditation System™.

2) Life Activation

Healing from PTSD and Anxiety - Life ActivationThis is a modality from the Lineage of King Salomon which is a 3,000-year-old tradition. This hour-and-a-half session brings Light into your DNA (physical and spiritual) and activates the codes associated with your individual purpose. It connects you with your higher or true self, strengthens your gifts and brings in more energy to your body. In effect, it makes it much easier to do what ever it is you are here to do, giving you a stronger sense of knowing yourself.

This was incredibly useful for me because things that weren’t real, for example, flashbacks and memories, started to fade and lose their effect on me. I knew who I was. I was able to move through the world much more easily and effortlessly. It also made all of the other tools I was using to heal much more effective.

3) Empower Thyself – Modern Mystery School Initiation

This is a two-day class which is also from the Lineage of King Salomon and is taught through the Modern Mystery School. This class provides invaluable tools for shaping your life for how you want it to be. According to this tradition (and according to my personal experience), we create our own lives. We are the ones who decide what we do and how we live. Two of the most useful tools in this class for specifically dealing with PTSD and anxiety were the Sanctuary Meditation and the Prayer of Protection.

Sanctuary Meditation is a meditation process that uses certain keys so that you can talk directly with your Higher Self. This is the part of you that is infinite spirit and knows your purpose. Your Higher Self can offer messages about your path, what options are best for you, and insight into any issues that you are dealing with. This meditation was paramount in me understanding my traumas and being able to heal them. With your Higher Self in the Sanctuary, you can easily heal inner wounds and shift yourself to a higher state of being.

The Prayer of Protection ritual helps get rid of lower energies. If you’re feeling particularly anxious, afraid, down or stressed, this ritual helps dispell negativity and provides clarity.

This class is all about empowerment and getting us to a place where we can live a life of joy, prosperity, empowerment, and fulfillment. There are many more tools that are passed down along with the authority and energy provided by Initiation. All are extremely useful and I really recommend this class for all who are interested in it.

My Three-Year Healing Journey

Healing from PTSD and Anxiety - SuccessThe first year of having PTSD I was barely functioning, I only had the simplest coping tools from the first list, and I was checking out most of the time. It was extremely hard if not impossible for me to do basic things like household chores, let alone anything more. I drastically cut back my workload and basically just tried to do as much as I could and then would binge-watch TV.

Fast forward a year later when I get life activated and take Empower Thyself. Now I’m beginning to function on my own. I can do fun and joyful things. I am actually feeling safe again. I am so empowered that I can stand up to my abuser, fight for justice and make sure there are protections and supports put in place for other survivors of sexual assault.

Fast forward another year and I don’t have any regular symptoms. On the rare occasion that I do get stressed, I have many tools available to end the cycle before it starts. I have a greater awareness and ability to analyze my actions, discerning my patterns so I can continue to heal. I’ve only had PTSD three years, and now it’s effectively gone. I still have some work to do around doing things that bring me joy. But I have already made so much progress, and I know for certain that I have what I need to let myself experience joy and live a truly happy life.

My Hopes for You, Dear Reader

I hope if you struggle with PTSD or anxiety, that you try one or many of the tools I listed above. If you are interested in learning more about anything on my lists, please feel free to contact me (my contact information is listed below). Beyond that, best of luck with your healing and thank you for reading!

Labels

Labeling of Who We Are Begins at Birth

My given name is Tetana Adkins and I am a God in training, a powerful co-creator Goddess. Sounds quite powerful and unexpected, right?  Believe it or not, I didn’t always think of myself or define myself in this empowered way.  This new way of viewing myself beyond the labels of society is a very recent experience that I am only just beginning to understand and really embrace, seeing the beauty in how much my world has opened up now that I chose to go beyond defining myself with labels.  I allowed the labels of others and greater society to determine who I was for many, many years; nearly all my life in fact.

When I was born, I was defined by my biological gender as female.  Then I was given a name by my parents, quite a unique one at that, which took nearly 30 years to appreciate but that is a whole another story.  By the age of 3 years, I started identifying myself by the ancestry of my family, notably as Native American.  Being raised on my mother’s side of the family, the Native American side, primarily shaped my world view lens of experiences, even though I was what society termed a ‘mixed blood,’ because my father was White.  I struggled for years being called a mixed blood, never fitting in with either of the ethnic groups I was born into, nor being really accepted for my unique ancestral mix.  Ultimately, I was compelled to choose which label of ethnic identity I would proclaim in every aspect of my life: how I introduced myself, what boxes I’d check on forms, and how I would identify myself in the US Census.  Over the many years, I felt great pride in my choice to identify as Native American, because of our history as survivors of colonialism and genocide, the 500 years of resistance gave me something to embrace proudly as it was part of my family story, my own personal story.

The Need to Define – Why Labels Exist

LabelledThe word label is defined by thefreedictionary.com as a verb where it is used “to identify or designate with a descriptive term; describe or classify,” “a brief, descriptive phrase or term given to a person or group, school of thought, etc.” Labels exist to create meaning, to define someone or something in ways that make sense on an individual and collective level.  However, the question must be asked: By accepting labels, whether it be regarding ethnic identity, sexual orientation, race, class, and the like, are we then limiting ourselves, not realizing by accepting labels and all that is ascribed to it, are we then denying who we truly are?

The Problem with Labels

As human beings, we are used to putting a label on something or someone.  We tend to look at the world through a very judgmental, limiting way, and labels definitely create limits, including separation between us, when truly, we are all connected, one.

How does this happen?  From my own personal experience, I became very attached to my ethnic identity of Native American, and it was very important to me to be recognized for that by others, so much so, that every time I introduced myself in public, I made sure people knew I was a member of the Colville Tribe.  I absorbed the story of the Native American experience wholeheartedly, not realizing how much I was allowing it to define everything about me, thus limiting my worldview and understanding of who I was at an even deeper level.  The experiences I was having in my personal life reflected the limits of accepting that label as the only story of who I was.

Moving Beyond Labels – Paths of Understanding Opening Up

Choices and PathwaysAs I stepped forth into the path of the initiate in the Modern Mystery School, I began to receive teachings starting at Empower Thyself that opened up channels of curiosity within my soul unlike any other before, specifically being told that I am God, that I was a ‘God in training,’ to which I remember my first reaction was, ‘Really?!’   I truly had no idea of how to apply that incredible teaching to myself and it was clearly difficult for me to accept and embrace that I was God.  It was far easier to take on the labels that others had placed upon me.

However, through my work in Kabbalah I was then pushed further in understanding who I was by answering these life-changing five questions:

  • Who Am I?
  • What Am I?
  • Where did I come from?
  • Where am I going?
  • What is my purpose?

When I started my first climb in Kabbalah, I answered the five questions quite diligently with ease, in the expected way, from the influence of labels, by saying who I was by my first and last name, followed by my gender and ethnic identity as Native American.  I wrote quite the autobiographical piece in answering all the five questions initially, noting at the time that my purpose in life was to be “on a sacred journey of discovery,” which in some respects is true, but is not the complete picture of what my actual life purpose is!

Taking the course, Know Thyself, as well as following the Ritual Master Path has opened up in me even greater clarity into what it means to be God, to be a spiritual being having a human experience, understanding that “I have never been born, and therefore I can never die.”  When I first heard these expressions, there was resonance within, yet initially, I still clung to the labels of my outer world because it seemed so much easier and safer to do so.  Now that I have embraced the fact that I am God, and letting go of the labels of personal identity, I am now seeing how my world is reflecting this inner opening of my spirit to endless possibilities and opportunities for growth.

I am God.

The manifestation of how I would like to experience the world as a Healer-Warrior is happening with many situations moving forward in my life, now that I have chosen to let go of this old pattern of labels that no longer serve me.  Additionally, I am learning to forgive myself for my humanness, my shortcomings at times, and really embracing the fact that I am a powerful co-creator, a Goddess.  The truth that set me free was in making that choice to see myself as God and to live and embody it fully every day when I wake up, so I can then go above and beyond the limits of labels.

Radical Self Care

Most people would agree that our world today is in kind of a rough spot.

Many would say that they worry about the future and what is going to happen for their kids, grand kids and great grand kids. Whether the fear is about the economy, the volatile political arena, global warming, natural disasters – there is a lot of uncertainty about the fate of our global society. With that fear, there is a mixture of passion for making a difference – to help things get better – alongside confusion about how to do that, apathy about what kind of change we can actually make, and despair that maybe it’s not even possible.

So how do we change the current state of the world? How do we overcome all of the obstacles that are in the way of moving toward true peace on earth? What can we actually do?

With all of the fear and uncertainty about the future of our planet, there is a mixture of passion, confusion, apathy and despair about what we can and should be doing about it.

First of all, we must not lose hope! According to the teachings from the Ancient Mystery School Tradition, there is much we can do as individuals, and in fact, the power to truly change the world lies with us–the people. Individual people making individual choices in our individual lives–not the institutions, not the governments, not the religious organizations. It’s us. The people. Changing ourselves from the inside out. Putting our self-development, our self-mastery at the very top of the priority list–taking such exquisite care of ourselves as individuals. This is what will truly change the world. Indeed, this is a pretty radical notion. And has come to be known as RADICAL SELF CARE.

What is Radical Self Care?

Radical Self Care is a number of things. But first and foremost it is a WAY OF THINKING. It is a WAY to move through the world where you are treating yourself with the highest level of care and respect. And just right there–with that–we come to why this is truly radical. For the most part, we are trained (from birth and by society) to do the opposite of this. We are trained to put MANY others things, people, tasks & priorities before ourselves. We are trained to disregard our own needs and our own boundaries. We are trained to “put up with it” or “make do” with the less-than-ideal circumstances and options presented to us. We have had the modeling for (and therefore the expectation of) “suffer through it” from parents, teachers, bosses, and people in positions of authority. Nowhere have we been consistently taught to take exquisitely good care of ourselves.

And so, when we engage Radical Self Care, we counteract this ingrained programming and literally begin to change the world. This is how it works.

Here are 3 Ways that RADICAL Self Care will change the world:

#1  Reclaiming our power

When we start engaging Radical Self Care, we take the power over our own well-being back into our own hands. By doing this, the manipulation by fear is no longer such a powerful force in our lives. When we learn to be personally responsible for our own physical, mental & emotional well-being, we have the capacity to stand strong–to make decisions based on what we truly desire–not on what we think will keep us safe. This doesn’t mean going renegade or refusing things like medical care–it means that we claim authority over the decisions that we make regarding what is truly GOOD for us.

So really, it all boils down choice. Making choices based on what is really – REALLY and TRULY – good for you. How often do you make a choice based on what you perceive the limitations are? Not enough time. Not enough money. “Not allowed” by the constraints of whatever external factor or force is setting those limitations.

Let’s use health care as an example:

Radical Self Care - Vila LoukasThe “powers that be” have us all wrapped up in what is “allowed” by the health insurance companies & policies and the constraints that they inflict upon us. Well, what if, in reclaiming your own power, you decide to not be limited by those constraints? What if you look for and find a different way to take control of your own health care? For most people, this sounds really scary. AND I will say (having done this) it is incredibly empowering. This doesn’t mean rejecting a medical model or going without health insurance. It means going BEYOND what are the perceived limitations. Doing things like getting a second (and maybe a third) opinion, pursuing alternative approaches, getting online to research and understand the nature of whatever you are dealing with. AND THEN, making choices about what to do in your specific case based on YOUR OWN authority regarding what is best for you.

Reclaiming your power is making choices based on your own authority regarding what is best for you. As you do this, you begin a life long practice of self-mastery referred to as  << KNOW THYSELF. >>

To claim your own authority, you must actively seek to Know Thyself–to know what’s best for you on a regular basis and act upon it. Knowing yourself is staying connected to your center, to your inner truth and moving from that place. Not allowing the external world to dictate to you.

So, how do we do this? What has to happen for us to claim this power for ourselves?

It is certainly a process. Counteracting the programming that is so deeply ingrained, must become a way of life and will require things like:

  • Getting educated
  • Learning new skills
  • Claiming sovereignty over ourselves
  • Being the gauge of what is actually good & right
  • Understanding that there are options
  • Expanding our awareness of the possibilities that exist
  • Discovering new ways to do things
  • Trusting our intuition & inner guidance about what is right

Now imagine this! A whole society of people who are making choices from a place of their OWN AUTHORITY because they KNOW THEMSELVES better than any doctor, better than any teacher, better than any politician and they have taken personal responsibility to find the options that will truly work for them. Does this sound like a different world? Yes! The power of choice rests in our hands and when we choose Radical Self Care, we change the world.

#2  Raising our vibration

Taking really good care of ourselves literally changes our personal energy. Remember the last time you did something super awesome for yourself…How did you feel? (This means something awesome that was not followed by self-guilt or a backlash of self-judgment) Most likely, you felt super awesome! Another way of saying this is you raised your own personal vibration. You felt happy. You felt cared-for. You felt optimistic & hopeful. You felt STRONG. You had a positive outlook. This is raising your vibratory frequency.

Human beings are energetic tuning forks. We are constantly tuning to the energies around us.

When we consistently take exquisite care of ourselves, we make that higher vibration our norm. As such, we are less likely to settle for what doesn’t actually serve us. We raise our standards. We insist on that which is actually beneficial instead of “making do” with what some external source hands to us. Whether it is in the work force in the form of a job or in the world of education, when we stand up for that which is actually a “good fit” so much more becomes possible! I call this opening ourselves to the realm of magickal opportunity.

Radical Self Care - Vila LoukasNow imagine this! A world where people are going throughout every moment of the day from one magickal opportunity to the next. Raising our personal vibration & tuning ourselves differently will literally change the world.

Imagine a world where people are going throughout every moment of the day from one magickal opportunity to the next.

#3 Leading by example

Human beings learn from one another. When you practice Radical Self Care, you do 2 things: You give others permission to do the same. And you SHOW them how it is done. When you don’t settle for a “less than ideal” job offer–instead you hold out for what really is a good fit for you. When you explore alternative approaches to dealing with hormonal imbalances–instead of popping whatever latest chemical fad has swept the pharmaceutical industry. When you upgrade the quality of your food or water or air in your home–instead of going with whatever is cheap or easy. When you prioritize YOURSELF over other duties, responsibilities & tasks. When you do these things, you are teaching your friends, your family and your community not only that this kind of radical self care is possible, but also that it is ESSENTIAL for leading a fulfilled life in today’s world.

Practicing Radical Self Care moves you beyond the status quo. And it gives you the opportunity to bring others with you. Now imagine this!  A world with a whole new status quo! One where treating ourselves with utmost respect and taking exquisite care of ourselves is the norm!! Imagine the peace, joy, fulfillment & FUN we can all have as a result!

Personal Growth & Healing through Awakening, Evolving, and Expanding

The Journey and The Path - Beth Siragusa

The Seeker Awakens

“You have been chosen, and you must use such strength and heart and wits as you have.” – J.R.R. Tolkein

In my personal experience, I have found that there is the journey and then there is the path. I started writing this article which I quickly found impossible to produce without sharing the struggles and triumphs of my personal story. So, I ask you to journey with me through the lens of my experiences of life and self-discovery. No journey is complete without intrigue, challenges and hidden treasure along the way, so let’s go!

“The key to growth is the introduction of higher dimensions of consciousness into our awareness.” – Lao Tzu

The day my life changed forever, I was living in Beaumont, Texas, which was a mere 10 miles from the small town where I grew up. (I’ve shed my Southern accent and so much more since those days, but I digress…) It was spring of 2007 and a friend called me and asked if I had seen the movie “The Secret”.  I hadn’t even heard of it. She had watched it a few days earlier and “something keeps telling me to watch it again with you. I know that probably sounds weird but it’s a really good movie”. “Sure, why not.” As I watched, I felt time warp and shift and the foundation of my life to that point crumble beneath my feet. Oh wow, wow. I know Oprah talks about “Aha moments” but this was intense. Little did I know the Law of Attraction was about to put my life in the spin cycle. Since that moment I’ve looked at this point in my life as my spiritual awakening. It opened in me an insatiable curiosity about the nature of reality and who and what I really am.

“When we love, we see the infinite in the finite. We find the Creator in the creation.” – Eliphas Levi

A New Direction

Over the next few years, I would dig in and teach myself to meditate and to read tarot. I would sit for hours pondering over

The Journey and The Path - Beth Siragusa

Eastern philosophy and Buddhism, the Sikhs and galactic beings, wondering if we are really alone in the galaxy? I sought out metaphysical teachings, readings, and explored raising my kundalini energy. Searched the far corners of the internet and found some awesome as well as highly suspect materials, but I devoured them all. The impulse to search and to know was huge. I chanted mantras, tried to unlock my psychic gifts, learned about Reiki, astrology, totem animals, auras and crystals. I explored my past lives, did telepathic experiments with friends, found the Goddess, spent hours on vision boards, started yoga, delved into Mayan prophecy and generally tried every kind of New Age thing I could get my hands on. I wanted to get to the bottom of the burning questions… How can I have everything I desire and still grow? Is suffering necessary? Are past lives real? Should I eat meat? What is karma? Who am I? What is my purpose? Why the heck do I exist? What is this really all about anyway?

Part of my journey to finding my true path involved a trip to Seattle, WA to see Abraham Hicks live. The Abraham material came into my life at a very crucial part of my awakening and helped to open me up to the next stage of my spiritual evolution.  I was ecstatic to be in the presence of someone who was in the very movie that started my spiritual awakening explosion. And I was intrigued to see this ‘channeling’ thing in action. What I found was mostly great and I felt like I was in the presence of wisdom. One of the best things about this experience was that I felt comfort beyond measure knowing I was among other seekers like myself, who really wanted to know and were open to exploring creative answers to create the best life for ourselves and others, and I could meet hundreds of them at once and talk about all kinds of things! Yet, after all the excitement of the experience wore off, I knew in the core of my being that this was really good stuff, but that there was much much more.

I recalled noticing when Abraham paused for just a second too long, and I simply knew like I knew, like I knew that they couldn’t say certain things. That not everyone in the room was ready for more, or for what that more meant. I wanted to know those things in the pauses. The questions I had about the space in-between were driving me from within and I wanted to know the still deeper answers to the questions of life. It felt almost like a biological imperative from within the core of my body and being.

“Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of it’s dream.” – Paulo Coelho

Leaping Forward with Eyes Open

Fast forward a few more years to 2010 and I quit my cushy well-paid office job in Houston, sold my car, sold most of my things and threw the rest into a U-haul (half of which were my books!) and made the cross-country journey to Seattle, WA to start the next phase of my life. What prompted this radical shift? I had received guidance in a deep meditation to make this move, and it was obvious that to me there was something BIG on the horizon, but I had no idea what. The feeling behind this vision was unquestionable. I had to go. I just had to trust and take the leap. So I jumped…

“We will not find the inner strength to evolve to a higher level if we do not inwardly develop this profound feeling that there is something higher than ourselves.” – Rudolf Steiner

My first year in Seattle was the hardest year of my life to that point. I didn’t know anyone and I made some friends, but it was slow going. I was working a minimum wage job and I had pretty much given up hope while questioning every decision I’d ever made, doubting my intuition, suspicious of everything I’d been learning about… and then something happened. I met someone who introduced me to the Modern Mystery School. I knew in that moment that I had found what my soul journey was leading me towards. I had found an ancient school of the arts and science of metaphysics that had answers and, more importantly, tools that worked to transform the negativity of my life into positivity, and to help me discover my unique life purpose and start living it! I had found my path and my life journey took on a whole new meaning beyond what I could have imagined. I went from seeker to finder, from lost to found, from limited to limitless. One big sign that you have found a true path is that there is no end to it, and that it uplifts and supports your unique life purpose. I found my life purpose and a path upon which to walk towards it swiftly and in a straight line instead of meandering through different systems of thought and confusion in the upheaval of paradoxes and divisions.

Finding Requires Evolution

“One of the best definitions which I have come across is that which defines evolution as the unfolding of a continually increasing power to respond.” – Alice A. Bailey

The Journey and The Path - Beth SiragusaA few years into my study I began to realize that as I evolved, new and higher energy tools became available to me. In order to ascend, we must let go of one rung of the ladder and reach up to the next rung. I learned I couldn’t be attached to any specific tool, way of thinking, healing modality, ritual, prayer or meditation in order to get to the next level. A crucial part of reaching to that next rung on the ladder of our personal evolution is to empty ourselves of what we think we know. To release our attachments so that we become an empty vessel, open to receive new knowledge and understanding. All of those experiences on our journey that lead us up to the point of stepping onto our true path are incredibly valuable, and we must also be unattached to them once we are on the next rung of the ladder, else we hold ourselves back. It’s so important to acknowledge these experiences and honor them by letting them go so that we can become something greater.

“The empty vessel makes the loudest sound.” – Shakespeare

Letting Go is an Act of Love and Faith

In my journey from seeking to finding, I found myself letting go of what most people would say was a pretty good life. I had a job that paid well, family nearby, good friends, a boyfriend that was really there for me. Yet, when it came down to it I had to sacrifice these things to find my own soul, to become who I really am. What I’ve come to understand is that these things in my life that I had to let go of were calling out to be transformed so that I could evolve. However you come by the sacrifices along your journey, just know that nothing truly great was ever attained without sacrificing what wasn’t really working to gain your highest and best good. A key is to simply be willing to make the sacrifice, to let go of your negative ego bullshit, to release those shadows that are stopping you, to say sayonara to the fears. The willingness to reach that next rung means you have faith in yourself that you can grab on and pull yourself up a little higher and see things from a new perspective a little clearer.

“We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the one that is waiting for us.” – Joseph Campbell

From me to you, the seeker and finder on your unique journey, I truly respect you and I honor you. What you are yearning and asking for, where you choose to dive into the parts of yourself that are amazing that you’ve been hiding away and also the parts that need refinement – I know that takes so much courage, resiliency and heart! My covenant with you is that I will always be ready to listen. I will make available the tools for true transcendence and transformation. I will spend time with you so you know you aren’t alone. I know what it feels like to think that no one else can relate, and on the flip side I know the true joy of finding my pure path where I can be all of who I am, including a tribe to share my gifts with and learn together. What I ask of you is that no matter what your experiences in life to this point, that you consider approaching life with your cup emptied, your heart open as much as possible, ready to receive and use what you are given so you may taste the sweet fruits of a more awakened life for yourself.

Say not, ‘I have found the truth,’ but rather, ‘I have found a truth.’ – Kahlil Gibran

Learning through Expansion

“In these days of the shattering of the old form and the building of the new, adaptability is needed. We must avert the danger of crystallisation through pliability and expansion. The “old order changeth,” but primarily it is a change of dimension and of aspect, and not of material or of foundation.” ― Alice A. Bailey

The Journey and The Path - Beth SiragusaI found answers to the questions I was seeking, and then I found the deeper aspects of those questions! I kept asking and the Universe responded. The shattering of the old forms in my life was part of the process that had to occur for my life to expand. There is layer upon layer to this reality, rung upon rung on the ladder of self-discovery and knowledge of life and the Universe. And part of the journey is that you have learned to expand and “rise above it”. You are going to put people on pedestals and as you grow, at some point, those pedestals will come crashing down and you know what? You will still have to find a way to rise above it all and continue your journey to find and walk your path. This is true alchemy, true transformation. It changes us into strong, capable, incredible beings.

“Imagine all the people living life in peace. You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one. I hope someday you’ll join us and the world will live as one.” – John Lennon

Initiated into the Ancient Mysteries

How do we rise above when thoughts and emotions that arise on our journey threaten to knock us off our path? By learning and working with a foundation of essentials!

Finding the Mystery School was a huge leg-up in my life. No longer did I have to put all the pieces together by myself. No longer was I alone in my journey. Laid out before me was a path of progression through the wisdom teachings of the entire world! Proven methods and tried and true ways of creating a beautiful life used by some of the most influential figures in history from Socrates to Leonardo DaVinci to Nikola Tesla to Albert Einstein, all initiated into this Mystery School. In all my seeking I had never encountered such an elegant system and I set forth to learn so that I could share with others. In the Empower Thyself class & Initiation, I hand down tools, techniques, specific meditations and teachings to set sacred space, dispel negative thoughts, and call upon supportive positive energies for your protection and benefit. These essential tools allow you to instantly shift your energy to a higher vibration and literally rise above and keep going, keep expanding! Being initiated into the Mystery School lineage of King Salomon is about being your own guru, your own King or Queen, through embracing the process of  “Know Thyself” and uncovering and engaging in your unique life purpose that only you can bring to the world.

“Initiation, or the process of undergoing an expansion of consciousness, is part of the normal process of evolutionary development, viewed on a large scale, and not from the standpoint of the individual.”  ― Alice A. Bailey

The Alchemy of Self-Mastery

Your path is something you will keep being called to again and again anytime your life journey takes you a little off course. Find yourself wandering around in the weeds? There will likely be a wake-up call before too long! One hallmark of a true path is the call to a service of others as well as yourself. After my initiation in the Empower Thyself class, I became eligible to attend Healer’s Academy to learn the technique of the Life Activation. This activation opens and awakens the spiritual DNA in someone, allowing for rapid expansion and growth. I also received the 2nd step initiation which is about moving into serving others and allowed me to begin to step outside of yourself and gain insights into a larger part of my life purpose.

“An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.

An authentic path has the potential to reconcile all systems and to resolve paradox, discord and confusion. Contained within the Mystery School path is the Universal Kabbalah, the system of creation which contains all systems of creation. There is nothing in your journey thus far that will not fit into the Universal Kabbalah. Thousands of people have studied this form of Kabbalah in which everything is found and everything may be resolved within it. Whatever background, race, nationality, heritage, genetics, socioeconomics, etc. you come from, whatever you have studied before, whatever your life purpose, whatever you are called to do, be and become – all can be found within Universal Kabbalah. It is the ultimate tool of the Mystery School path and an incredibly powerful system to use to consciously heal and recreate your life.

“Healing does not come through intense affirmation of divinity, or by simply pouring out love and the expression of a vague mysticism. It comes through mastering an exact science of contact, impression, of invocation plus an understanding of the subtle apparatus of the etheric vehicle.” – Alice A. Bailey

All of the great thinkers, philosophers, inventors, movers and shakers throughout history have said it in one way or another: Follow the journey of your heart, find your path, transform yourself, and you ultimately create your destination as well as your destiny. I say that you have the ability to do this and so much more.

This is Your Time to Shine

We are living in an unprecedented time on the planet where there has never been such a call to wake up, to seek, to find, and to live out the best versions of our ever-evolving selves. I look at my life today and am overwhelmed with gratitude for my journey and for the path that I am on. I am so thankful for all of the people who committed themselves to the process of becoming who they truly are, those Lights that shine on the horizon of human consciousness as beacons of what is possible in our human potential. And I count myself incredibly blessed to continue evolving as one of these Lights that I may shine hope to others.

With you in love, peace, freedom, and connection through the heart,

Beth <3

Max Meditation System™ in Seattle and Bellevue

My personal experience of how meditation heals and empowers my being.

What is meditation?

Meditation & self-care. These buzz words of our era can be elusive and nebulous. What is meditation? How can it help me? Meditation, in short, is the action of conscious awareness with no thought or attachments to thoughts. What is self-care and what does that mean for me? Self-care means taking care of yourself—filling your cup. It is only from filling your cup are you better able to serve others in a greater capacity.

“When the well’s dry, we know the worth of water.”  ~ Benjamin Franklin

It is difficult to serve from an empty cup—there is a deficit and nothing to give. From my experience of meditation, it is an invaluable tool for self-care.

What Does Meditation Do?

For example, if you run an engine with low oil you can only do it for so long before you crack the engine block. Same with the body; meditation is a tool that keeps the engine, you, running smoothly. Meditation can also be likened to an internal compass for you, your ship. When storms hit as they do in life, meditation is the tool that can keep you on course, keep you anchored. In a world where it feels like time is quickening, and there is so much unrest, meditation offers the time and space to invest in yourself to regain peace and tranquility by just being with yourself. It is one of the most sustainable self-care tools we have. The tool is you and your desire to know yourself.

“Do something every day that is loving toward your body and gives you the opportunity to enjoy the sensations of your body.” ~Golda Poretsky

My Journey & Practice

I started my meditation journey in 2012. My doctor recommended meditation for my anxiety, depression and high blood pressure, stress and lack of sleep. At that time, I had also found out I had a brain tumor. I did some research and found that meditation can heal the body.

I thought to myself that there are no side effects and this medicine is me just being with me. Let’s do it.

In the beginning, meditation was tough. I was antsy and restless to be alone with myself and my thoughts–just sitting there and being with me.

“The most terrifying thing is to accept oneself completely.” -Carl C Jung

It was weird–I had no clue what was really going on with me. I realized I didn’t know myself. Here I was living in my body but I had no idea who I was. This tool that I picked up was revealing what was going on under the surface. The more I meditated—the more I learned and in turn, the more I healed myself.

“The most powerful relationship you will ever have is the relationship with yourself.” ~ Steve Maraboli

I have experienced over the years that meditation eliminates more of the clutter, anchors me in my purpose, increases greater awareness of myself and my surroundings and heals me on an emotional, mental and physical levels!  Through my meditation practice, I have found that the more consistent I am with meditation the better I feel. In turn, the better I feel, the greater ability I have increased my productivity and cognitive ability to serve in a greater capacity. This tool is very empowering.

I tried different meditation techniques. There are so many. One of my favorite techniques is the Max Meditation System™. I remember during one session of Max Meditation System™, I received such a calmness, relaxed state of being that I had never experienced before. After the session was done, I had the best night sleep! This form of meditation I found effective in really eliminating the clutter of my mind to enhance my well-being.

“Meditation is like vitamins for the soul.” -Cathelina Salas

Many years later, I can say that my brain tumor is nearly gone and my blood pressure is lower. What I lost in stress, I gained in peace. This tool has empowered me to be in the driver’s seat of my emotional and physical health. I have experienced breakthroughs in healings, revelations on myself and epiphanies. I gained more creativity and inspiration. Along the way, I learned so much about myself that I didn’t know. Through that knowingness, I have come to love myself and others more. My compassion, empathy has increased for others because of this practice. Meditation offers that–knowing yourself in an intimate way that no one else can know you.

A View of the Earth from a new Vantage Point

Alright line them up in your mind and consider this.  There are a lot of pretty places out there on the planet.  Places you have been, locations still on your bucket list.  Perhaps you live in a “Garden of Eden” already.  Truthfully there are some not so pretty places on the planet too (largely for our part), but in general, she knows how to give us a great face in those mountain peaks, cloud formations, and gorgeous sunsets we view from various vantage points, doesn’t she?!  The earth with her many places has truly mastered the art of Beauty and she has an abundance of wisdom to offer when we are communing with these places.  Mountains, river valleys, and oceanside views throughout the world draw tourists and people to stay permanently and for a very many good reasons.

We live quite literally on a gold mine of opportunities for creative transformation, hands-on, joy-filled activities for learning, playing, growing, healing, and experiencing a life of miracles.  I mean we get to live here – on this awe-inspiring, diverse, abundant, and gorgeous planet!  How much are we acknowledging this, celebrating in fact, and integrating this knowledge and understanding in our daily lives?”

We see and enjoy the trees outside our windows sure, we take our happily appreciative walks in our running sneaks, we drive out to the local foothills for day hikes, staying on groomed and trimmed trails and for obviously good reasons – so we don’t overburden, erode, and destroy our wild places.  But still, if you examine these habits, notice our bodies remain physically separated from the vegetation around us and the ground beneath us.  We are making the greatest and best use of this massive opportunity on earth, aren’t we?

The En-souled Perspective

I acknowledge and know that I am an eternal Spiritual being having a physical experience.  This is the lens of my foundation now but it hasn’t always been so.  And as such in my short years on this planet I have also been a landscape designer and gardener, a botanist, a restoration ecologist, a wetland scientist, the lists of intellectual “–ists” could continue.  Dialing it down I am a plant nut and I love this earth from the depths of my heart and soul!  I have been integrating my life with Gaian energies probably more than the average human, the city-dwelling kind at least, and it has in fact been my passion to do so and to share it with others as long as I can remember.  In these (now seen as spiritual) experiences I have observed many things including my thoughts and activities, my patterns, progressions and stopping places, my illnesses, awakenings and healings, and those of others around me.  Along the healing journey of my life thus far, for one reason or another, my system has understood the significance of moving beyond the appreciation for nature as an external phenomenon.

I have innately understood that direct and consistent relationship through connection (touch) with this planet is good.  Simply put.  And I have acted upon that understanding enough in my life choices for a myriad of benefits whether conscious or not.  And in that more connected paradigm, I observe also the contrasting dualities around me, and quite a breathtaking experience of the disconnectedness and imbalances existing in our relationships to the planet, to ourselves, and each other.”

Digging Deeper into the Issue

But let’s remain on the topic of environmental concerns.  I’m not saying we don’t care about preserving virgin forests or don’t feel remorse when another coastline or coral reef is lost to sea level rise and polluted waters.  Many of us feel at least a little sad when our neighbor cuts down a big majestic city tree on their side of the line.  I don’t believe anyone intentionally means harm when they throw recyclables in the trash or cigarettes from their cars on Interstate-5.  I actually know we are Good at our core, at the blueprint of who we are.

Could it be that one of our key issues is that we and our recent ancestors have built the communities we live in, created our lifestyles, and patterned ourselves out of the habits of being in actual and regular contact with the earth?  Contact which might be vital to human function and wellness, maybe even speed up the progression of the soul – leading to greater intuitive awareness, clarity, and wisdom in all our actions?  What a concept.  We believe we are connecting with the planet when we’re outside but we really aren’t getting the full spectrum benefit of this contact, because we don’t yet understand what it is.  For most, it may never occur to think that it’s a problem to spend the majority of our lives in our cars, offices, un-ground houses and high-rise apartments.  These hidden disconnects and hidden knowledge are the issues.  And what we don’t see, don’t observe in our unconscious habits, comes back eventually to bite us in the butt, always!

We donned rubber-soled shoes, we left the fields and forests for the age of civilization, religion, language, science and mathematics, and now the uber-technological age of computers and electronic gadgets and games (which by and large keeps us indoors).  The tech age is actually pretty exciting!  But our focus on these activities has also taken us away from physical contact and an understanding of the bioelectrics of our bodies and the natural world.  Significant numbers of us don’t even have a cognitive understanding that there are bio-energetics involved and how they work.  Separation as simple as that (and yet possibly one of the most critical missteps we are primed for correcting) that is a major root to all imbalances – beginning simply with physical/mental/emotional well-being.

“Those that climb towards a more religious or spiritual perspective (mind, body, spirit) might say our relationship with the planet right now is a manifested reflection of our current state of Separation – from the nature of our own divinity, our true Self, and from God.”

Earth-based Momentum and the Earthing Movement

So, God aside, there is a building wave of consciousness on the planet about a great many hope-filled things!  Organic foods, holistic health and wellness, permaculture, integrated green energies and home technologies, ecological stewardship and eco-villages, yoga and dance movements, meditation and Reiki are all aspects of this profoundly healing and new paradigm-wave bringing on the potential of actualizing a massive shift.  The more active terms “Earthing” and “Grounding” are also coming now to the forefront of consciousness.  What is so hopeful about the Earthing movement is there is mounting data from scientific research on the healing benefits of bioelectric contact with the earth.

Clinton Ober, Stephen T. Sinatra, and Martin Zucker published a powerful (and forgive the term), ground-breaking, and award-winning book on this topic in 2011 called “Earthing: The Most Important Health Discovery Ever?”  The authors of this publication describe the ways in which the energies in our bodies are meant to function in relation to the energetics of the earth.

Hands in the Plants

An earth that, teems with subtly pulsating frequencies…the planet is a six-sextillion metric ton battery that is continually being replenished by solar radiation, lightning, and heat from the molten core.  Just like a battery in a car that keeps the motor running and the wheels turning, so does the rhythmic pulsations of natural energy flowing through and emanating from the surface of the Earth – keeping the biological machinery of global life running in rhythm and balance.”    – Clinton Ober, Stephen T. Sinatra, and Martin Zucker

Ober, Sinatra, and Zucker describe in detail the insidious phenomenon of our physical separation from this natural energy, the loss of access to contact in the urban environment, and our loss of awareness to go access it.  They discuss the myriad benefits of the negative ions emitted from the planet’s surface, the epidemics of stress, inflammation, and disease in the human population and their intriguing links to lack of contact with these energies.  They offer case studies compiled by physicians and researchers,  building independent data that demonstrates the importance of re-connecting to plants, soils, and nature as a basic tenet to holistic wellness.

“Just as breathing, hydrating, eating, exercising, and sleeping are vital needs for human health, Earthing in fact supports and in most cases, enhances all of these very basic human activities and is proving to support the body in healing and recovery from illness.”

Not yet common knowledge (but undoubtedly needs to be), Earthing each day or while in recovery from an illness, is the therapeutic act of having physical bioelectric contact (through bare feet and hands) with the surface of the earth.  We can also connect with these energies from contact with the living parts of plants (green leaves and needles, green stems, etc.) that are currently rooted in the soil.  Alternative Earthing technologies exist too.  The kind that plugs into grounded outlets for those who don’t have regular access to gardens, lawns and parks, or for those who don’t find it practical to be outside all year and in all types of weather.

Grounding the Topic and Coming Full Circle

To the authors of Earthing, getting back in contact is necessary to our human abilities to live long and healthy lives.  As a Modern Mystery School initiate and Kabbalist, I say it’s imperative to our abilities to live life fully Awake and Alive!  Being in regular physical contact with this planet helps us to embody the aspects of the Self that are more than just human!

“From my vantage point Earthing is far more than physical therapy.  It weaves into a lifestyle of getting present, connecting with the sensations of the body and the perceptions of the mind, reconnecting with the habits of our ancestors, and re-integrating all sorts of hidden knowledge.  Earthing is about witnessing and having first-hand knowledge of the rhythms and patterns of the earth and universe that so divinely reflect for us the intangible realities and deeper truths of our origins.  For me, Earthing is about beginning to re-wire and re-connect the lost pieces of the soulIt is a birthright of living we have largely forgotten, but a piece of our crown we can very easily reclaim.

As a gardener, I’m like “what’s so new or insightful about touching plants and soils?”, but it is because so few of us are doing it consistently!  And since undergoing life changes resulting from an injury, focusing far more these days on the intangibles of inner garden work, developing other aspects of my life purpose, and shifting away from getting my fingers and nails dirty all day, I too forget to get outside and get my “Vitamin E” as the authors of Earthing have coined.  In the life-changing session work I do for others, my devotion to service as an initiate of an ancient lineage, and the personal clarifying and empowering work I continue each day with the knowledge and keys of Universal Kabbalah and the Tree of Life, it is imperative that I am grounded and that I earth (as a verb) not just exist in a place on the earth (as a noun).  When I am really grounded I heal faster, I’m more in tune, and I have access to far more of the reality around me.  And we are all of us meant to be living life fully alive, in joy, in full health and mastery of our bodies, experiencing far more than a mundane reality, and continuously learning, letting go, transforming and opening to more in response.  I mean doesn’t that sound right to you when you search your heart?

New Leaves and Where to Start

Having identified a significant wide-scale issue with this “hidden disconnect” from the planet – the easy thing is to go outside, buy a bed sheet, and “just do it”, right?  I pose that not all human minds and bodies are alike and by and large we are beautiful, amazing creatures of sometimes not so aware habits and the unconscious patterning not to change.  Put another way, we may not “feel” an Earthing sheet right away, conclude this stuff is bogus, and give up another opportunity to shift gears.  Another dose of hidden truth is that in our patterns of disconnect and high-stimulant culture so many of us actually have an underdeveloped perception of our senses, particularly the subtle ones.  We may even have unconsciously shut them off at some point in order to protect ourselves and stay safe.  We aren’t sure what we feel, our minds aren’t discerning, and there’s a fair amount of stuff clogging the filter.

“Humanity is numb and we’ve been asleep at the switchboard!  It’s kind of an ugly pill and a sobering dose of reality not everyone is going to swallow BUT the good and hope-filled news is each one of us came into this lifetime with the divine capability to consciously create new patterns, to choose to change when we have new knowledge or new experiences.  That is true for us all.”

And we are in the period of the planet right now of mass elevating consciousness.  So many more of us are ready to realize, to heal, to let go, to move forward.  So, from my own healing experiments and experiences in plantophilia, in professional horticulture design and building gardens for Seattle-area clients, in observing behavior, and having a very alive and mostly good-humored relationship to my own resistance to change, I offer to you what actually gets me excited, what’s fun and gets me riled up to be living and trying new things, what gets me more outdoors than in and actually touching the ground.

Here are my 10 Hot Tips for really grounding “Earthing” into your life:

1. Illuminate Thyself!

Get the facts and understand what Earthing is all about.  Read articles on the topic as well as the book on Earthing discussed here (available for free in .pdf format or for purchase on Amazon).

2. Gather baseline data on your habits.

How much are you are actually “Earthing” or not?  It can just be a practice of passive observations and general awareness or you can track time and behaviors with a journal.  Don’t alter your normal habits and try it for a week – it’s actually fun to study yourself and build personal awareness!

3. Make use of open spaces.

At home in fair weather, if you have access to a yard or garden space with lawn or open soils utilize them. Have a designated sitting or laying spot.  Add a dose of this to your morning or evening routine.  For example, when you get home after work, take your shoes off and go immediately outside to walk around, visit your flowers, your vegetable garden, the trees, or just sit down for a while, breathe deeply, meditate and let go of the daily stress while also EARTHING!  Start with 10 minutes, then work up to 15, 30, perhaps even an hour of that needed quiet time or meditation practice you have also been desiring to start.

4. Create places for de-stressing and healing.

I have created for myself and for clients intentional laying or sitting gardens with soft and aromatic ground-covers and herbs. Places that actually invite the mind and body aesthetically and sensually to go and seek the ground.  These places are great for de-stressing or soothing the nervous system after healing work.

5. Stay connected to the ground.

As much as possible when you’re outside, have bare feet and hands. This is where the garden gloves must come off!  When you’re out hiking or walking down the street touch leaves and live green parts of plants as you pass.  Bare feet aren’t always comfortable, culturally acceptable, or safe.  Did you know moccasins or leather-soled shoes still allow bioelectric current to flow between the earth and your feet?  And are way fashionable too!

6. Gather and eat from the abundance in nature.

Go U-picking, start your own vegetable garden, go wild foraging (with a knowledgeable and ethical guide).

7. Be consistent.

According to researchers, doctors, various self-mastery experts and a Huffington Post article from 2014, it takes at least 21 days for the mind to form a new habit. Try Earthing each day for a full 30 days.  Pay attention to your physical sensations each day while you are doing it.  Journal about your experiences.  And observe how you feel over time or at the end.  Consistency is important.  You can absolutely do it!

8. Invest in Earthing tech.

As the last and final tier towards greater connection, invest in Earthing technologies. They can be pricey.  It’s a tool in the toolshed for you to receive the passive physical healing benefit at the very least.  Don’t be surprised if it seems subtle.  Sometimes significant shifts occur subtly and over time.

9. Make it fun!

In attempting to create new healthier patterns for yourself, whatever you do – laugh, be humble, you and I are hilariously ridiculous, no judgement, always bring kindness and compassion along in your back pocket.

10. Enjoy the elements – earth, water, air, and sun.

Finally, GO GET YOUR VITAMIN E ON!
